Early 2018 we got approached by Marian Duff, founder of MAFB. At the time they were looking for a new videographer that could take over their video productions. There was a wish to develop a more holistic approach to their video content.

Robbert collaborated closely with Marian on developing a video format for two of the main projects MAFB was doing at the time: fashion fest and OSCAM. An overarching aesthetic was established. A part of that was a custom theme song by frequent collaborator Ingmar Kiemeneij.

OSCAM needed more video content that could incite people to visit the museum and they wanted more in depth content. This is where we decided to incorporate interviews with the visuals.

Marian enjoyed the experience collaborating on these projects so she involved Robbert in two projects she was curating at Amsterdam Museum and Museum van Loon.

“In this exhibition, six leading contemporary designers put their creations next to and opposite our historic collection with fashion from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It is a dialogue between the present and the past; an exchange of statements.” – Amsterdam Museum

We documented the reflections of these designers in a series of short films. These films were on display as part of the exhibition. Short versions and a campaign film were created for social media.

“For the first time the museum highlights the involvement of the 18th and 19th century Van Loon family with the WIC and Suriname.” – Museum van Loon

The subject matter required a more in depth approach. We decided to interview a group of descendants of slave owners and enslaved to capture a sense of what the history has left behind.

The 7 minute film is part of the on going exhibition at the museum. In addition we created content from separate interviews and additional programming at the museum.
